Shilajit is a dark, resinous substance found oozing from rocks in high-altitude mountain ranges — the Himalayas, the Altai, the Caucasus, and a few others. Over long time spans, plant matter is compressed and transformed into a complex mix of organic compounds dominated by humic and fulvic acids.
What's in it
The two compounds that matter most for standardization are:
- Fulvic acid — the small, water-soluble fraction that most brands report as the headline number
- Humic acid — the larger, less soluble fraction that typically goes under-reported
Beyond those, you'll find a spectrum of minerals and trace compounds that vary by source. This is also why sourcing and testing actually matter — not every deposit is equal, and not every batch from the same deposit is equal either.
What it's used for
